Ever imagine life without art?  Christine Eddy, Director of Development met with Photographer Patti Larson to discuss the subject. Patti said, “It would be a bleak and silent world.  Art is not just photography or painting.  It’s everything around us including music and dance. Art conveys feelings and emotions.  It teaches us about a subject.”

Patti worked in the healthcare industry before retiring in 2011.  She was really looking for an outlet to be creative and give back to the community.  As a retirement gift, she received an American Express card, and decided to purchase a camera.  She took classes from Art Becker at the Erie Art Museum and really appreciated his passion for photography.

Patti and her husband Chris are members and supporters of the Erie Art Museum.

They enjoy everything that the museum offers including exhibits, classes and events.

Helping others and giving back was another goal of Patti’s following retirement. She is the Director of Development for StringsforaCURE, which is a non-profit organization that provides education, comfort, support and financial assistance directly to cancer patients, primarily those with breast cancer.

A member of the Erie Photography Club and the Photographic Art Society of Northwest Pennsylvania, Patti loves to photograph nature.  Some of her favorite places to photograph include Presque Isle, Lake Erie and Dobbins Landing.

Bob Sajewski, Graphic Design Consultant / Erie Insurance Creative Services reached out to Patti last October about doing a show at Erie Insurance.  She was flattered.  Patti’s show, “Through My Lens” is in the Galerie at Erie Insurance and runs through April 22.  She has thirty-five pieces in the show, which is closed to the public, but you can view Patti’s breathtaking moments on her website, pattilarsonphotos.com.

Art improves and enhances the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. Patti said, “It’s therapeutic for the artist as well as the viewer.  You can get lost in it.”  That’s exactly what Patti’s photos do to you.  They take you away from the busy world for a bit and let you escape for a few moments. Imagine life without art and imagine and imagine a world that is grey. Can you imagine life without art?
