Fall Semester Art Classes
Whether you’re aching to try your hand at watercolor painting or hoping to get in some time on the ceramics wheel, Fall is the perfect time to satisfy your artistic cravings by joining an art class at the Museum. Classes are available for everyone, kids through adult, with skill levels from novice to virtuoso. Explore the art of Indian Embroidery, Precious Metals Jewelry Making, or a wide variety of clay classes. And for the kids, learn stop-motion animation or make your very own Halloween costume! Visit erieartmuseum.org for a complete
Fall line-up and more information.

Classes satisfy ACT 48 credit for teachers and scholarships are available. Please plan to register one week prior to class start, September 13.

Building Update
As the opening of the new building rushes toward us, workers are attending to final details. For completed portions in the existing buildings, the air flush-out nears completion—this is a LEED certification requirement that, together with the choice of appropriate materials, aims to provide a clean, chemical-free interior environment. Dovetail Gallery, which has produced the cabinets and other millwork, is installing the woodwork on the new stairs connecting the new building with the second floor gallery. The last major construction item—the sprung wood floor in the new multipurpose room—also nears completion, allowing for the flush-out to proceed in the new building. As these final details are completed, the Museum staff is hard at work preparing for the installation of the opening exhibits.

Applauding Innovation
Congratulations to the four finalists in the InnovationErie design competition:

Visit innovationerie.net for details about the finalists’ designs.

In its second year, the competition provides local innovators with an outlet to propose and display their ideas and advance them onto manufacturing in Erie and ultimately to the marketplace.  All prizes are meant to encourage inventors to bring their ideas to fruition; winners receive professional advice on intellectual property law, prototyping, design development, marketing, and other aspects of product development.

The finalists and all semi-finalists’ entries will be on display at the Museum until October 31, 2010. A Best in Show Award will be given to the design that receives the most public votes (voting is open through October 31).

Winner will be announced at a press conference held on Monday, Sept 27 at 1:30pm at the Erie Art Museum. Next years deadline will be May 11, 2011 - start inventing!
