Overview
Since 2003 the Museum has been designated a Regional Folk Art Support Center, part of a statewide network supported by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Museum is charged with identifying and assisting traditional artists in the region and with expanding awareness of the traditional arts in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Kelly Armor is the folklorist on staff at the Erie Art Museum. An accomplished musician, Kelly earned a degree in ethnomusicology from Friends World College and performed for 13 years with the folk music duo Armor & Sturtevant. "The opportunity to coordinate the Regional Folk Art Support Center is very exciting to me," says Armor. "It enables me to combine my experience as a song collector and performer with my deep respect and love of traditional arts. As a Folk Art Support Center, the Museum has been able to create awareness of traditional artists in our community. Local folk artists have gained positive exposure and reinforcement of their values, and our community has been enlivened by access to great traditional arts of varying disciplines and cultures."
