VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT:

Mary Gamble has been a pillar of the Erie Art Museum’s Board of Directors since 2009 and currently serves on the Board’s Executive Committee as the Vice President. But her leadership extends way beyond the conference room. For the past four years she has organized and run the Museum’s annual Rummage Sale. She collected thousands of objects — vintage clothing, housewares, furniture, and art from friends and the community. She then spends hundreds of hours sorting, arranging, and pricing. This year’s sale was wildly successful and brought in almost $6,000. Mary says, “Some people think I’m a little crazy, but I love antiques and art, and I love to shop at estate sales and thrift shops myself. I have a great team of friends to help and we actually have fun. We laugh a lot.” Nancy Potter, Dale Allgeier, Mary Grace Umpleby, Bonnie Lyden, and Patty Holstein joined in on the fun and helped Mary out with organizing the sale. Mary’s effort didn’t just bring income, it brought over 550 bargain savvy visitors. Mary also engaged five local artists to create portraits of John Vanco that became the stage decorations for ARTrageous. Each one of them sold at the event’s silent auction. The Museum thanks Mary Gamble for her dedication, creativity, her connections with Erie’s artists, and her willingness to roll up her sleeves and give weeks of her time to support the Museum.
