“The tagline for Jurassic Park: The Lost World reads ‘something has survived,’ and for me this is undeniably true. What survived? My infatuation with the pop culture of my childhood. I treasure the movies, toys, games and TV shows of the 80s and 90s. So much of who I am and what I do is a product of that time that I think of my sculptures almost as fossils—remnants of a lost world that I so desperately want to hang on to and preserve. I find that sculpting and mold-making imitates, in a certain way, the fossilization process. I cover objects in a material that captures their shape and texture and this, in turn, preserves them as a rock-like representation that will last forever. If I had to sum it all up, I guess I’d say my work is about the difficulty and joy of growing up while trying to hold onto my youth.”
