“Generally, as a sculptor I couldn’t exist without metaphor. As a young art student, I took a required literature class that opened my eyes to the possibilities of building stories with layered meanings. Soon after, I was introduced to Northern Renaissance art and the rich metaphor, symbolism and storytelling of artists like Jan van Eyck, Pieter Bruegel and Hieronymus Bosch.

Today, I make sculpture that takes the form of narrative stacks inspired by endangered animals, modern technology, religion, genetically modified food, etc. I want to make sculpture that reads like poetry—full of open metaphors.”
