Time Travel features paintings that analyze our ability to recapture the reality of the past. Inspired by a treasure of 50+ year old family movie reels, events blur, and reality is augmented with fabrication. Time Travel explores the phenomenon of nostalgia and the ever-dissolving memories held within us all. King uses real photographs from friends, family, and others, to then alter them visually through rearrangements, editing, or fading details. What is left behind is a fabrication, yet one that represents a past moment in time. Through his use of color King captures the spirit of the mind’s desperation to “preserve the disintegrating glances into our memories.”
King was born in Stow, Ohio and received his MFA in Painting from Kent State University. His work is in several collections and has shown in several Nicole and Harry Martin Annual Spring Shows at the Erie Art Museum, as well as galleries throughout Ohio and the United States.
