HIGHERGLYPHICS is a significant contribution to the Erie Art Museum that complements its $10M expansion. Artist Todd Scalise installed a permanent, postmodern-styled mural employing the idea of a regional historical narrative.
This project is distinctive. The annex stairwell is a main artery in the museum that is negotiated many times throughout the day. The mural offers an element of the unexpected and enhances the museum with added fascination.
This project is significant. The four-story mural design follows a narrative extending from prehistory to the present, containing many historical references from the Erie region. The mural exists as a bold, stylized, unified design that flows from the basement to the third floor. In addition to the artwork itself, Todd and the EAM have released a variety of Hiergphyphics merchandise such as t-shirts, mugs, hip flasks and iphone cases. These items both market the project and produce revenue for the museum. Items are on sale in the Museum Gift Shop.
This project is innovative. The mural employs the most contemporary printing techniques and compliments the LEED status of the building with its application of environmentally friendly materials.
SPONSORSHIP is a way to help encourage the next generation of museum patrons. Your contribution will not only help us expand the mural to unfilled portions of the stairwell walls, but also enable you or your business to be featured in this highly visible project. By making a charitable contribution, you will benefit from the museum’s 501c3 non-profit status. Additionally, you or your business will be identified in the mural design with a QR code. This QR code will enable visitors with smart phones to link directly to your web site through a full-page advertisement at the ErieReader.com
