Sense of Wonder: Aaron Kramer

June 7th, 2024 - June 8th, 2025

Frenzel Gallery

Meet Aaron Kramer on Friday, June 14th at Gallery Night.

Aaron Kramer is an artist who from an early age wanted to make things move. At 8, fascinated by marionettes he made his own and delighted his parents with an impromptu performance. Thursday night was his favorite night. That was when the neighborhood put out their trash. A goldmine for machines and components for him to tinker with. Soon he was making go-carts and contraptions. Fast forward to his early professional artwork where the idea of motion and mechanical function was evident. The early inspiration of penny arcades and science museums comes through in Kramer’s machines. Sometimes the result is just fun and engaging movement; other times, the complexity boggles the mind. His drawing machines are the pinnacle of this expression. Through purely mechanical means and the turn of a handle his “selfie machine” churns out self-portraits of the artist. There is an overwhelming sense of wonder when witnessing his work. Thus the title of this retrospective show, Sense of Wonder: Aaron Kramer.
