Erie Art Museum Photography and Media Policy

Last Updated June 2022

The purpose of this policy is to inform visiting photographers and media of the policies and procedures surrounding professional photography and videography in the Museum space.

Guests may take photos during public museum hours, however the Museum does not allow free standing lights, tripods, scrims, or other potential tripping hazards to be brought inside the Museum. Individuals looking to come into the Museum specifically for photos must either be members or pay admission for the day. Guests are expected to remain cognizant of the private enjoyment of other Museum guests, and may be asked to leave if disruption occurs.

The Museum does allow professional photographers that are members of the Museum to rent out the Museum for photoshoots for a nominal fee of $50 for two hours with prior authorization of the event coordinator or other available staff. Museum rentals for photography must take place outside of public open hours, and is subject to facility and staff availability.

Rental of the facility outside of open Museum hours does not restrict the usage of lights, tripods, scrims, or other recording equipment, however all equipment and subjects must be a minimum of 3 feet away from any Museum artwork or display.

Rental of the facility does not extend any rights to copyrights or trademarks of works in the Museum to photographers.

Museum admission or rental of the facility is not required for photos taken on the Zaphiris Family Patio or State Street Custom House steps.
